How to use Zimbra Collaboration Suite for Email at CCIS
At CCIS, we use a product called Zimbra Collaboration Suite for email (and calendaring). This is available in an open-source edition and a commercial edition; we use the commercial edition.
Zimbra’s web interface is very good; to use it, go to https://zimbra.ccs.neu.edu (note the s in https) and log in with your CCIS login name and password.
You can also read your mail through the Zimbra Collaboration Suite server with a standard mail client using the IMAP protocol, and send it with SMTP. The server name is zimbra.ccs.neu.edu for both protocols.
Legacy Mail Accounts
Zimbra accounts are created for CCIS users as part of their account creation. If your account was created (e.g. several years ago) before this became the default, you should request a mail migration using the web application found at https://gozimbra.ccs.neu.edu.
Setting up Email Clients to access Zimbra
- Mozilla Thunderbird
- Alpine (or the earlier Pine), available on CCIS Linux machines.
Zimbra Desktop
If you’d like to use the Zimbra Desktop client (essentially a mini-Zimbra instance that runs on your local machine that synchronizes with our server), you can use the following settings:
Account Name: your_CCIS_account_name
Email Address: your_CCIS_account_name@zimbra.ccs.neu.edu
Password: your_CCIS_password
Incoming Mail Server: zimbra.ccs.neu.edu Port: 443
[X] Use SSL encryption when accessing this server
